Sierra Leone is located in Africa. It borders the Atlantic Ocean, and is bordered by Guinea and Liberia. This country, in comparison with a state in the United States, is a bit smaller than South Carolina. Sierra Leone is 71,740 square kilometers in total area. This is about 8 % of Continental US area. 

The terrain of Sierra Leone is a bit like Florida, and some western states in the United States. There is a mixture of swamps (like Florida). There is also wooded areas, plateaus, and mountains in the east. The main river is the Sierra Leone River which lies on the western part of this country. Lake Sonfon is the only lake in Sierra Leone, and gold is dominant in this region.
